Moments in Time: Defining Moments in the History of Photography at MoCA Jacksonville

Works by Erwin Olaf

Erwin Olaf’s work is currently on view in Moments in Time: Defining Moments in the History of Photography at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville (MOCA), on view from December 13, 2025 through July 5, 2026.

Presented as part of MOCA’s rotating collection exhibitions, Moments in Time offers a sweeping overview of the museum’s photographic holdings, which comprise more than 250 works and form a central pillar of its permanent collection. Tracing a broad historical arc, the exhibition brings together key moments in the evolution of the medium, from early 20th-century pioneers such as Imogen Cunningham, Edward Curtis, André Kertész, and Edward Weston, through the critical transformations of the 1970s, and into the present era of digital innovation and expanded stylistic approaches.

Within this context, Olaf’s work is situated among artists who have shaped photography’s trajectory as both a formal and narrative medium. His meticulously constructed images—marked by their cinematic precision and psychological depth—extend the medium’s ongoing dialogue between staged reality and lived experience.
