On October 29, 2026, artist David Maisel, art historian Alexander Nemerov, and Clio’s Books founder Timothy Don will gather in Oakland for David Maisel and the Apocalyptic Sublime, a conversation about Maisel’s artistic practice and his new monograph, View from the Precipice: Survey of Works 1983–2026. The discussion will explore Maisel’s photographs, paintings, and video works, which examine landscapes transformed by industrial extraction, resource exploitation, and climate change, and consider how aesthetic beauty can draw attention to environmental disruption.
