László Moholy-Nagy, Untitled, 1925-28
Two works on paper and one sculpture by László Moholy-Nagy are currently on view at the Museum of Modern Art in New York as part of the ongoing exhibition Living in the Age of the Machine (Floor 5), alongside works by artists who shaped the visual language of industrial modernity such as Marcel Duchamp, El Lissitzky, and Francis Picabia.
Moholy-Nagy was among the most rigorous thinkers of the machine age, and the works in the exhibition demonstrate the full range of his inquiry. His photograms — made by placing objects directly onto light-sensitive paper without a camera — strip photography down to its most elemental.
