The Metropolitan Museum of Art presents Met Expert Talks: Lillian Bassman, an in-gallery program offering an in-depth exploration of the photographer and art director’s groundbreaking work in midcentury fashion photography. Led by Met specialists, the talk examines Bassman’s experimental approach to image-making for Harper’s Bazaar, where she redefined the visual language of fashion through abstraction, darkroom manipulation, and bold editorial design. Drawing on works from Lillian Bassman: Bazaar and Beyond, the program highlights how her innovative practice transformed magazine photography into a space of artistic experimentation and modernist expression.
