May 11 - September 15, 2013 | Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, Florida
Organized by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and curated by Alison Amick, Faded Elegance: Photographs of Havana presents a series of large-scale color photographs by Michael Eastman produced between 1999 and 2010. Working with a 4 x 5 camera, Eastman documents Havana’s architectural interiors and urban surfaces, examining the effects of time, environment, and economic conditions on the built landscape. Spanning domestic spaces, public buildings, and abstract exterior details, the exhibition considers how material decay and preservation reflect broader cultural and historical shifts.
