Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery and curated by Siobhan McCracken Nixon, Stephen Shore: Uncommon Places presents a selection of photographs from Stephen Shore’s influential series produced during road trips across North America between 1973 and 1981. Featuring large-format color photography depicting streets, motels, storefronts, interiors, and landscapes, the exhibition examines how everyday environments can be framed as photographic subjects. Drawn from a recent gift of works from the Chan Family to the museum, the presentation also foregrounds photographs made in Canada and traces the development of Shore’s observational approach to the built landscape and daily life.
