The Los Angeles County Museum of Art has acquired fifteen photographs from Mona Kuhn’s She Disappeared into Complete Silence series, drawn from the distinguished Paul Ruscha Collection. Created at the neo-modernist house Acido Dorado in Joshua Tree, the series is shaped by the singular clarity of California desert light, where reflections across glass and mirrored surfaces dissolve the boundaries between architecture, human form, and the surrounding landscape. Bodies appear both present and refracted, suspended within planes of sky and sand, as interior and exterior merge into a single luminous field. LACMA’s acquisition affirms the importance of this body of work within Kuhn’s oeuvre and secures its place in the museum’s collection of contemporary photography.
