Halaban's recent photographs of Paris are a continuation of her "Out My Window" series. Halaban has shifted her focus from New York to Paris, while continuing to look though windows and disseminating between what is public and what is private. As before, the pictures are posed, the owners and residents of the apartments are knowingly photographed, their domestic environments serving as a stage onto which they perform. The stories and narratives that are told however are familiar and open-ended, with Halaban deliberately leaving infinite possibilities as to how the scenes may end.
A set of the Paris photographs first appeared in the French publication Le Monde in November, 2012. This fall, a new publication of all the Paris pictures is being published by Editions De La Martinere, entitled "Gail Albert Halaban: Vis à Vis." For the United States, Aperture will be publishing the English version of the book, "Paris Views."
